SearchGate is built to change your search page, not watch it.
This policy explains what the SearchGate extension and web app do and do not collect. Last updated June 3, 2026.
Search text stays out
SearchGate does not collect your search queries, result snippets, page content, personal identifiers, or raw URLs.
Receipts stay local
The extension stores receipt history in Chrome storage on your device and lets you export it as JSON or CSV.
Billing is separate
Stripe handles checkout and subscription payment details. SearchGate stores entitlement status against an anonymous extension install ID.
Rulesets are signed
Remote rulesets are fetched from SearchGate and verified by the extension so search controls can improve without collecting what you searched.
Data SearchGate processes
The extension processes search-result pages in your browser so it can collapse supported AI answer modules and add source labels. That page processing happens locally in the browser.
When telemetry is enabled, SearchGate may receive privacy-preserving operational events such as extension tier, mode, action taken, supported search engine, ruleset version, and normalized result-domain categories. The backend rejects query text, snippets, page content, personal identifiers, and raw URLs.
Payments and accounts
Paid plans use Stripe Checkout and Stripe Billing. Stripe may collect the payment and account information required to process your subscription. SearchGate receives Stripe subscription events and maps entitlement status to an anonymous extension install ID.
Storage
SearchGate stores extension settings, local receipt history, and the anonymous install ID in Chrome extension storage. The production backend stores signed ruleset metadata, entitlement records, Stripe customer/subscription identifiers, and limited operational telemetry only when telemetry is enabled.
Sharing
SearchGate does not sell personal data. SearchGate uses service providers needed to run the product, including Vercel for hosting, Neon/Postgres for production data storage, and Stripe for payments.
Controls
You can turn telemetry off in the extension popup, export local receipts, uninstall the extension, or contact support for account and subscription help.
SearchGate's privacy line is simple: useful search controls without turning your search history into a backend dataset.
